Toro-Goya
"I work from a "Latin American Baroque" aesthetic, as an exploration of a political and conceptual language in contemporary photography.
I use analogous photographic techniques especially the Ambrotype and Daguerreotype, these supports represent my philosophical and political position, it is a form of subversion to the neoliberal model that has installed non-professional digital photography as a new tool of social control.
I look for in the construction of scenes a symbolic narrative of our reality and social history. Peoples that are born in resistance, constituting ourselves from the margin, articulating stories in a cultural mess that shapes our visual identity of which I feel militant".
Mauricio Toro Goya (1970), he lives in Altovalsol, Coquimbo Region, Chile, where he has developed his work as a photographer. Since he was very young he has been in touch with Sergio Larrain, the great Chilean reference photographer. Through a sustained contact, the Chilean of the Magnum exercises upon Toro Goya a role of guide and master. He has made more than 40 exhibitions, both individua, collective and presentations in America, Asia and Europe; Those made in: National Museum of Fine Arts of Chile, Museum of Contemporary Art of Chile, National Museum of Fine Arts in Argentina, Diego Rivera Museum of Mexico, Manuel Álvarez Bravo Photographic Center, Mexico, Museum of Contemporary Art, Oaxaca; Mexico, Montevideo Uruguay Photography Center, China Taipei Arts Museum, Penumbra Foundation New York, ImageneSingulières, France, MOMA Museum of Modern Art in New York. 24 books have been published with his work.

Busco en la construcción de escenas una narrativa simbólica de nuestra realidad e historia social. Pueblos que nacemos en resistencia, constituyéndonos desde el margen, articulando historias en un amasijo cultural que da forma a nuestra identidad visual de la cual me siento militante".
